As we enter 2Q09, entities across all sectors of the energy industry are growing anxious to see how"”and when"”federal agencies will open the spigot on American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) funds. For its part, the Energy Department answered in two requests for proposals.
Congress appropriated to DOE nearly $21 billion in ARRA funds, divided principally between the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (OE) and the Office Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). DOE's funding solicitations ask the industry for (1) electric vehicle demonstration, education, and integration programs; and (2) smart grid deployment projects. For more information on these solicitations see www.fedconnect.net. The EERE solicitation for electric vehicles closes May 13, 2009, and the OE solicitation for smart grid devices closes on May 6, 2009. Keep an eye on this website for more information on these and future DOE funding announcements.
